DCLG state that the EPBD regulations are still law

Following a request from Quodox Energy, The Department for Communities and Local Government has written to confirm that the Government remains steadfast in that nothing changes since the referendum and it is business as usual.

The statement goes on to say that;

“Until exit negotiations are concluded, the UK remains a full member of the European Union and all the rights and obligations of EU membership remain in force. During this period the Government will continue to negotiate, implement and apply EU legislation. It will be for the Government, under the new Prime Minister, to begin negotiations to exit the EU. The outcome of these negotiations will determine what arrangements apply in relation to EU legislation and funding in future once the UK has left the EU.”

Furthermore it directly states the EPBD regulations “While the UK is still a member of the EU, all rights and obligations will apply. Therefore, for example, the Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations, which implement the Recast of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive in England and Wales, will continue to apply.”

Quodox welcomes this commitment to energy efficiency and EPCs and is thankful to DCLG for this positive statement which will reassure Members, and remind building owners and Industry of their legal responsibilities. We continue to talk to the same members of the DCLG team and are committed to ensuring that the good work that our members undertake continues to be valued, and that EPCs stay at the heart of responsible policy for reducing energy demand and making families homes warmer.
